InForm Clinics Fitout
Project Description
A discussion with Martyn Pierce of Pierce Group Architects linked us with PSP products as an alternative solution. PSP were accommodating in providing product samples and specification information. We investigated and both material properties and pricing favoured the PLEXIGLAS® SATINICE product. This product comes in large sheet size of 3020 x 2030, and simple cutting patterns allowed factory to produce a wall and door panel from one sheet. Three sheets were required to complete this wall. An off-cut piece from one sheet allowed a bonus for an additional cupboard door and side panel. A sheet price seemed comparable to the price of a fitted frameless glass door. [More information…]
Glass would require a translucent film to be applied or sandblasting, PLEXIGLAS® performed this readily, and thus provided an additional cost saving, and minimized trades involved. The wall panels were fitted with FISSO steel mounts. On request for assistance for “how many fixings and spacing requirements”, PSP contacted their support head office in Germany and overnight confirmed the quantities and dimensions required to support each wall panel. Surprisingly the material is workable with various tools, e.g. sawing, drilling, even sanding for edge finishing. Onsite drilling and over sizing the holes allows for the tolerances required for sheet movement from thermal expansion. Frameless doors became simple to achieve. Sopers Ltd and ANZOR Fasteners Ltd provided standard off the shelf products. We used stainless steel to achieve this result. The Satin-Ice sheets are protected with a clear film layer, and removing this after the sheets are installed generates a strong static electrical charge. PSP had advised of this and we had ensured the floors were cleaned and as dust free as possible to minimize the potential mess that could be attracted to the walls and doors. PSP also provided an anti-static solution that is easily applied and effective. The PSP product was feasible with cost and readily accommodating in time flexibility within the construction program. It’s physical properties exceeded expectations for the visual privacy requirement. Using this product became a cost saving alternative to glass. Satin-ice allows a level of detail and finish that delivers a sense of elegance and helped create a delightful environment for both staff and clients. As designer, this is a result to be satisfied with in this shop.
