PLEXIGLAS® GS and PLEXIGLAS® XT
PLEXIGLAS® solid sheet are available as cast acrylic (PLEXIGLAS® GS) and extruded acrylic (PLEXIGLAS® XT). PLEXIGLAS® GS and PLEXIGLAS® XT sheets differ because they are produced in different ways. The applications for which they are intended are also partly different, but their properties are nevertheless similar.
PLEXIGLAS® GS (cast)
- absolutely colorless and clear
- break-resistant
- unequalled resistance to weathering and aging
- high quality surface and planarity; high-gloss, textured (contemporary structures) or satin (PLEXIGLAS SATINICE® DS/SC)
- good resistance to dilute adds and to alkalis
- limited resistance to organic solvents
- very easy to work, similar to hardwood
- easy to thermoform over a wide range of conditions
- easily and firmly bonded, e. g. with reactions adhesives (e. g. ACRIFIX® 1R 0192)
- burns more or less like hardwood; very little smoke generation; combustion gases are non-toxic and non-corrosive
- max. service temperature approx. 80 °C
PLEXIGLAS® XT (extruded)
- absolutely colorless and clear
- break-resistant
- unequalaled resistance to weathering and aging
- very good surface; high-gloss, textured or satin (PLEXIGLAS® Crystal Ice)
- good resistance to dilute adds and to alkalis
- limited resistance to organic solvents
- easy to work; similar to hardwood
- very easy to thermoform under optimal, constanct conditions
- very easily bonded, also with solvent adhesives (e. g. ACRIFIX® 1S 0116)
- burns more or less like hardwood; very little smoke generation; combustion gases are non-toxic and non-corrosive
- max. service temperature approx. 70 °C
